While visiting the Siouxland area, we stayed at the Scenic Park Campground in South Sioux City, Nebraska. The campground sits on the shores of the Missouri River. They have several sites overlooking the river as well as some that are closer to the road but with tree cover.
We had site 10 on the riverfront. While the spot was great, there was no shade at all. We had a small tree next to the picnic table, but we happened to be in town during the heat wave, so it was really hot outside the first two days we were there. The sites have a gravel base and are pretty level, however it was rather difficult to back into, as the street itself isn’t very wide. We have a dually truck with a 25 foot camper, so it was a little tricky. Once we got backed in, we had to park the truck sideways in front of it to keep everything in our area.
Our site was electric and water only. They also had a cable hook up, but we haven’t been able to get the cable to work in the camper, so I can’t really attest to it. They did have a long list of channels though.
Just behind our spot on the road behind us was the bathrooms with showers. Since we didn’t have septic, we took most of our showers over there to keep from filling up our tanks. The bathrooms were very large and clean. The showers had good pressure and hot water. You also had to have a code to get into the bathroom, so that helped keep things clean as well.
The campground is located next door to the YMCA and you can swim for $4 per person. They were open from 1pm to 7pm most days. There’s also a paved bike/walking trail that circles South Sioux City and Sioux City. It’s approximately 20+ miles long and goes right by the campground. They even had bicycles you could borrow!
Overall, this was a nice little campground and well cared for. We were visiting family while we stayed and they happened to live just a mile away. It was also close to the bridge over the Missouri and Walmart and other stores were just a few minutes away.
