Prospector’s Pizza

Prospector’s Pizza – Denali Park, Alaska

As we finished up the last hour or so of our 6 hour Denali bus tour, our driver Elton Parks, began listing off a few of the local restaurants in case we might be hungry. One of those was Prospector’s Pizza. Something about pizza just sounded really awesome right then and we were hooked. Apparently it sounded good to a few other passengers because saw them as we left.

Prospector’s is located in the long strip of commercial buildings right off the Parks Highways. I missed it the first time and had to turnaround for another look before I saw the wooden sign over their entrance. Note that the parking lot here is pretty steep. Indoor and outdoor seating is available as well. The outdoor seating is great if the weather is cooperating.

The menu at Prospector’s Pizza is unique and definitely not what you’d see at Pizza Hut. There are several options whether you’re looking for a somewhat traditional pizza or something totally different and Alaskan, such as “The Lower 48 It Ain’t” pizza, which features Alaskan Reindeer Sausage and Ground Elk. Each pizza has a unique name and they all sound delicious. You can also do half and half of two different pizzas as long as they have the same sauce or if you want to substitute white or red sauce depending on your selection.

We went with a Grizzly 17″ size half Cable Car and half “I See Northern Lights” with red sauce. It was absolutely awesome. The crust was perfect and the ingredients divine. The price was good too considering that all food prices are pretty high in Alaska.

Since it was my husband’s birthday, we also had to go for a couple of desserts. He had a chocolate brownie sundae concoction that was deliciously rich and I had the chocolate mouse pie, which was also excellent. They have several desserts to choose from as well including crème brulee.

If you’re a beer drinker, they’ve got 49 different beers on tap, many of which are from Alaskan breweries. If you do partake in adult beverages, they also offer a free shuttle to get you back to your hotel safely.

In addition, you can order box lunches to take along with you on your bus tours. This is a great alternative to packing sandwiches or ordering Subway and a lot tastier as well.

You can find Prospector’s Pizza online at ProspectorsPizza.com or at Milepost 238.9 George Parks Hwy, Denali Park, Alaska.
