Boston International Airport
We flew out of Boston to Barcelona recently and I thought I would share our experiences with the Boston International Airport. Like many large airports, this place is like a compound of sorts with several terminals and surrounded by rental car lots. This is important to keep in mind because if you rent a car, you’ll need to fill it up with gas before you get to the airport “compound.” I believe that I did see one gas station, but if you’re like us and dependent on Google Maps to get you from the hotel to the rental car lot, you might not be able to find it very easily. We were also running short on time since it took us longer to get to the airport than we had planned.
My overall impression of the Boston airport when we first arrived on our Southwest flight from Amarillo is that the place is big! It’s really big and it’s easy to get lost trying to find the baggage claim if you decide to take the elevator with your stroller. Take the wrong elevator and you end up somewhere you don’t want to be. The baggage claim area for Southwest was pretty small as well.
When we left through Boston to Barcelona, the process went quite swiftly. Truthfully, it was a lot easier to fly internationally than we thought it would be – minus some hiccups that we had in Dublin. The ladies at the Aer Lingus desk in Boston were nice and helpful and we made it through security rather quickly considering we have a toddler and stroller and everything else that goes with a toddler.
When we arrived back in Boston from our trip, the process of going through customs went more quickly than we anticipated as well. The lines were long, but as long as you had your customs form and passport in hand, it went rather quickly.
We also flew out of Boston to Amarillo via Southwest. Southwest has been flying out of Boston for about four months now and they have a nice little gate area with Dunkin Donuts and some other food options as well as charging areas for all of your electronics. If you agree to watch an online video ad, you can even get free Internet.
