The La Waffalata in Mineola is a sandwich shop with a Broadway and baseball theme. It is the sister restaurant to the East Texas Burger Company. Both restaurants sit on Highway 80 amongst Mineola’s popular antique shops.
The La Waffalata offers a wide variety of sandwiches, soups, desserts, and coffee. We had the Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich and a turkey, ham and bacon sandwich (unfortunately I can’t remember the baseball themed name of it). Both sandwiches were good, but were definitely on the lighter side. I think we were both satisfied, but were longing for a little more.
As far as atmosphere, this is cute little restaurant that is between an antique store and the East Texas Burger Company. It is a very popular spot and went on a wait while we were waiting for our food. If you’re a fan of baseball, there’s all sorts of baseball memorabilia on the walls and the décor is cute and eclectic.
We didn’t have time for dessert, but the pie case was filled with a variety of cakes and cheesecakes, all of which looked delicious.
The service was good and attentive despite how busy they were. All of the servers were friendly and busy cleaning and seating and serving as fast they could. Of course, you don’t find too many people in East Texas that aren’t friendly.
If you’re exploring the antique stores of Mineola, this is a good place to stop for a bite to eat if you don’t feel you’re up to a burger next door and you want a convenient place to stop while you walk around the downtown area.
