When we travel, we really try hard to eat at local places and to avoid chains, but on this particular road trip, it just hasn’t been working out quite like we would prefer. We were initially going to eat Cortland’s Southern Kitchen, which was part of the Clarion Hotel, but they had a large party and we overheard one of the guests really giving the waiter a hard time, so we opted to look elsewhere and not take the chance of slow service. There weren’t many options around the hotel and it was getting late, so between Waffle House, Denny’s and Cracker Barrel, we went with Cracker Barrel.
I personally have always been a fan of Cracker Barrel and always get their Chicken and Dumplins and after not being able to eat Dumplins in Jackson, Tennessee earlier in the trip, I was ready for my favorite comfort food. My husband always orders the Grandma’s Sampler, which includes a sampling of meat, two eggs, pancakes and hashbrowns. Our only complaints were quite minor, such as overcooked hasbrowns and my dumplings could have been a little hotter, but overall everything else came out the way we wanted.
There have been times in the past when the service at Cracker Barrel could have been better than it was, but on this particular occasion, we couldn’t have been happier. Our server was super friendly and kept telling our son how cute he was. I love when you go to a chain and get the same food and service that you expect at your hometown store.
