Venice

Our stay in Venice was short but impactful. We only spent three days and most of the trip was spent wandering the streets and canals. While we did hit some of the hot spots, we mostly just enjoyed walking the streets and window shopping.

The Sights

  • Gondola Ride

While expensive (approx. 100 Euro when we visited), it is certainly the best way to see Venice as a whole. Walking is great, but it is easy to get lost and you spend a lot of time retracing your steps.

  • The Food

Definitely be prepared to spend some cash if you are going to eat at sit-down restaurant or hotel restaurant. The menu of the day at our hotel was 150 Euros per person. It was a four-course meal, but it was honestly not worth the final 400 Euro bill. Plan your restaurant meals, but don’t be afraid to grab a sandwich or a huge slice of pizza at corner shops.

  • Piazza San Marco

Piazza San Marco is by far one of the top attractions in the city even though when the tide comes up, it fills with quite a bit of water! That’s part of the appeal though. The prices of things in the Piazza are rather high, but just off the square, you’ll find great coffee shops at half the price!
